RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Henry Harvey Yerdon age 79 of Hogsback Road passed away peacefully on Monday morning October 8, 2012 in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on June 26, 1933 in the town of Richfield, son of the late Delmar Seymour and Ruth Schwartz Yerdon. A lifelong area resident he was raised in both Cherry Valley and Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.
Mr. Yerdon was proud of his military service with the US Army. He was honorably discharged October 13, 1959 attaining the rank of Specialist First Class.
On December 22, 2001 he was united in marriage with the former Barbara Ann Maaloe in Falls Church, VA. They have made their home in both Richfield Springs and Florida.
For thirty years Mr. Yerdon had worked as a self-employed Farmer in Richfield and Truck Driver for the H.P. Hood Company in Vernon. He retired in 2000. Henry was an active part of his community; he had served as a councilman on the town of Warren Board, an active member of the American Legion Post # 616 Richfield Springs, Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department and the Cherry Valley Volunteer Fire Department. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching western movies, following his New York Yankees, going to Florida every year just to get sunburn on his knees. In his younger years he found excitement racing cars. To all who knew him they will never forget his friendly manner and unforgettable smile. He will be truly missed.
Surviving besides his devoted wife Barbara are one son, Mark Henry Yerdon with his Companion Kim Pye and her son Kyle of Richfield, two daughters, Cynthia Jean Miner of Ft Worth, Texas, Valerie Marie Yerdon of Syracuse, a step-son, Daniel Kelly and his wife Janice with their daughter Alissa of Mohegan Lake, a step-daughter, Nancy Racette and her husband John with their children Casey and Kelly of Falls Church, VA, a brother, Richard and his wife Barbara Yerdon of Marcy, two sisters, Beverly Kaiser of Sylvania, OH, Geraldine Ginder of Nashville, TN, three cherished grandchildren, Michael Armstrong of Ft Worth, TX, Kevin Yerdon of Afghanistan, Keri Yerdon of Syracuse, one grandchild several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 10:30 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am in Saint Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. The Reverend Matthew B. Wetsel, Pastor will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow in Crain Memorial Cemetery, town of Warren. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Members of Richfield Springs American Legion Post # 616 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:30 pm for ritualistic service.
