Obituary

FLY CREEK VALLEY - Herbert J. Burdt age 74 of Ainslie Road passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday morning May 16, 2007 in his home as a result of a heart attack. He was born on April 12, 1933 in Albertson, NY son of the late Richard and Franziska Olter Burdt. In 1944 his family moved to Richfield Springs where they owned and operated their family dairy farm. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Richfield Springs Schools. On August 22, 1959 he was united in marriage with the former Dylis Llewelyn in Saint Bridgets Church in Westbury, Long Island. Mr. Burdt operated the family dairy farm until 1970. During that time he and his wife built and developed the Fieldstone Farm Resort, with the first guests in 1968 and operated it until their retirement in 1998. During the off season, he was a self employed builder and stone mason. In his leisure time he enjoyed working with his scroll saw and other woodwork projects. Together he and his wife Dylis did many craft shows as Burdt's Nest Woodworking. During the winters they enjoyed traveling with their camper and would spend the winter months in Weslaco, TX. He had a strong belief in God and was a devoted member of Saint Josephs Church in Richfield Springs. He was also a member of the Richfield Springs Lions Club. To all who knew him Herbert was a unique man, he had a down to earth manor that flowed from his character. He was gifted both artistically and mechanically. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point. But you could always sense a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by many especially his loving family.
