WHITESBORO-Herbert D. Masten age 79 of East Main Street passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 15, 2011 in the Rome Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Rome.
He was born on June 20, 1932 in Mohawk, son of the late Herbert and Julia Rockwell Masten. A lifelong area resident he was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea until 1951. He then furthered his education at the Utica School of Commerce graduating with a degree in business. For many years he worked for the Queens Farms Dairy Plant in Bridgewater. He retired in 1983.
Herb had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Christian life. In his youth he was baptized in the Herkimer Reformed Church and throughout his life attended Dutch Reformed Churches. To all who knew him they will always remember a caring and cheerful gentleman who took great pride in his personal appearance. He was proud of his heritage and kept many pictures and scrap books of his family and his years of growing up in Herkimer. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving are a brother Jack Masten of North Creek, one sister Camilla Biddlecome of Ilion, Two nieces, Lynn Crim and Cheryl Howard.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 am in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer with the Reverend Mark Andersen, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed Church officiating. There are no calling hours.
