HERKIMER – Hope E. Ruff, 99 years old, a very loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on Wednesday evening, January 17, 2024, at Little Falls Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Hope was born in Fowler, NY on February 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Lena & John Tyler. Hope was a 1941 graduate of Albion High School.
On June 23, 1945, Hope was united in marriage to Herbert C. Ruff at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. The couple shared sixty-eight years of love and devotion.
Hope was employed by Bell Aircraft for three years and later Managed the Varsity Sports Store in Niagara Falls. After moving to Quakertown, PA in 1966, she became an active volunteer in the Quakertown Hospital for 19 years. Hope was named Auxilian of the year in 1972. She took courses in Interior Decorating and Business. Hope loved collecting Antiques. She was a truly great interior decorator and kept an immaculate home.
In 1986, Hope and her husband moved to Herkimer to be near their son and grandchildren. She volunteered for several years at Valley Health Services where she was loved and respected. In 2010, Hope was named Volunteer of the Year at Valley Health Services for all her years of volunteer work there.
Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Karen Ruff, five very loved grandchildren, Lisa Woods and husband Jim of Averill Park, Jennifer Olds and husband Garrett of Ilion, Sara Lamanna and husband Joe of Herkimer, Erik Ruff and Cassie Linn of Charlotte, NC Laura Scalise and husband Dominick of Herkimer; her loved great-grandchildren, Alex and Megan Woods of Averill Park, Bryce Kaden and Luca Olds of Ilion, Jacob and Nicholas Lamanna of Herkimer, Ethan & Ella Ruff of Charlotte, NC, Geno, Isabella and Anthony Scalise of Herkimer, a special niece, Kathy Ebdon and husband Richard of Aurora, CO and their children, Geoff and Jennifer.
Hope was predeceased by her loving husband, Herbert and her dear son Gary, two sisters Margaret & Ruth and a brother Arthur Tyler, as well as a brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Agnes Ruff.
Hope was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will always be remembered for her strength, kindness and love that she provided to her family and others. She will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday January 24th at 11:00am in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of West German and Henry Street, Herkimer. Interment will be later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery.
