EAST HERKIMER-Hubert Gene Boyer age 83 of Shells Bush Road passed away peacefully on Saturday morning May 17, 2014 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He had the comfort of his loving family surrounding him at the time of his passing. He was born on February 4, 1931 in Ilion, son of the late Joseph J. and Eva E. Kinville Boyer. Hubert was raised and educated in both Ilion and Nassau, NH. He returned to Ilion after finishing High School in New Hampshire. On June 10, 1950 he was united in marriage with Betty Jane Lowell in the First Baptist Church Parsonage in Herkimer. It was that same year they made their home in East Herkimer. For more than fifty years Mr. Boyer was a member of the UFCW Meat Cutters Union in Utica. During that time he had worked for Aiellos Market in Herkimer, The Big M in Mohawk and the last being Melrose Market in Frankfort. He retired in May of 2013. Hubert had a strong faith in God and was a sixty-four year member of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer where he at one time served as a Deacon and Church Trustee. He was a regular face, working hard and loving to cook in the kitchen at the monthly Wednesday night church dinners. To all who knew him, he had a strong sense of community. For many years he served as a troop leader with the East Herkimer Boy Scouts of America Troop, attending Camp Russell with his son Doug on many weekends. He was a volunteer with the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department and at one time had served as its president. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, especially making lawn ornaments and in the fall of the year cutting up the deer brought to him by local hunters and listening to all the stories they had to tell. Hubert will always be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved his family and was always there for them in good times or bad. He will be truly missed. Surviving besides his devoted wife of over sixty-three years Betty are two sons, Douglas Boyer and his wife Susan of Morgantown, West Virginia, Eric Boyer and his fianc Sherri Ammermann of East Herkimer, two daughters, Sandra Cirillo and Cheryl Miller both of East Herkimer, a brother Dennis Boyer of NH, one sister, Shirley Coulombe and her husband Chet of Hudson, NH, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Gene A. Boyer, two grandchildren Rhiannon and Dustyn Boyer, a brother, Joseph Boyer, three sisters, Eleanor Wheeler, Ann Otis, Joyce Silver, a son-in-law, Francis G. Cirillo and in-laws, William Swart, Robert L. and Edna Reitz, William and Marion Taylor. At Mr. Boyers request funeral services are private.
