SSG Ian Michael Wellington, 28, born October 25, 1988 in Little Falls, NY passed away on June 11, 2017. Husband and beloved of Amy. Son of Kevin, Bridget and Brad, and Deb. Brother of Rachelle, Danielle, Amanda, Alanah and Alexander. Grandson of Ruby and John, Elaine and Howard, and Tony and Lynda. Nephew and Cousin to several dozens of cherished relatives. Father of Bender, Wilbur, Liela, Nibbler and Hunter. A graduate of Herkimer High School, Class of 2006, Ian was a scholar athlete and excelled at football, baseball, basketball, wrestling, and track and field. Ian was awarded both the Kim Sienkiewicz and Lamanna Awards for football. A soldier of the United States Army, Ian honorably served ten years Active Duty and recently transitioned into the Army Reserves. His service included tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and being stationed at Forts Benning, Huachuca, Wainwright, and Bragg. While serving, Ian achieved many decorations including the Army Commendation Medal (3rd), Army Achievement Medal (2nd), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd), and a Bronze Star. As a leader he was fair and held his subordinates to a high standard. An outdoorsman, Ian enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, boating, snowmobiling, fourwheeling, playing horseshoes, and barbequing with his family and friends. Ian spent his life putting others needs before his own and devoted much of his time to lending a helping hand. As a Friend, he was without equal. Ian led a life full of energy, had an infectious sense of humor, and forever enriched the lives of those around him. Services will be held Saturday June 24, 2017 at Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street Herkime. Calling hours from 10:00AM - 12:00PM and from 2:00PM - 4:00PM with the funeral service to follow.
