MOHAWK-Ida M. Cross age 80 of Fulmer Creek Road entered into eternal rest on Friday evening July 4, 2003 in Valley Health Services Inc., Herkimer.
She was born on February 19, 1923 in Frankfort daughter of the late John and Anna Emrich LaRouche. Ida was raised and educated in East Frankfort. On June 28, 1941 she married Rudolph Panko in Ilion. They lived on the Creek Road in Mohawk and raised three children there. After twenty-six years of marriage Mr. Panko died tragically in 1963. In November of 1965 she married Richard Cross in the Reformed Church Mohawk. He was the father of three sons. Mr. Cross passed away in September of 1974.
Ida had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Mohawk Reformed Church. She also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of Ilion-Frankfort Memorial VFW Post # 502.
Besides raising a family Ida worked outside the home for Genungs Department Store, Rudys Menswear, Nichols Department Store as well as having her own antique dealership. She retired in 1995.
In her leisure time she enjoyed playing bingo and could never pass up a chance to stop at a sidewalk sale. Ida was happiest when she was surrounded by her loving family especially her six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are one daughter, Linda and her husband Ronald Brinck of Mohawk, two sons; Timothy and his wife Carolyn Panko of Newport, Sergeant Thomas Panko, (Herkimer County Sheriffs Department) along with his special friend and companion Sherry Smith of Mohawk, two brothers; John and Eugene LaRouche both of FL, two sisters; Helen Smith of Frankfort, Shirley Fredericks of TN, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephews as well as a community that she was always eager to speak to.
Besides her parents and two husbands two sisters; Laura Cote-Schiller and June ODell preceded her in death.
Funeral service will take place on Tuesday at11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Paul Akers, Pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls where she will be laid to rest next to her husbands. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
