Obituary

FRANKFORT-Ira C. Weston, age 80, of First Avenue Extension, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning July 12, 2010 in his home. He was born on May 20, 1930, in Plymouth, MA, son of the late Arthur and Elsie Thornhill Weston. Ira was raised and educated in Plymouth schools. In 1948 he enlisted in the US Air Force. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1952. On September 11, 1954, he was united in marriage with Katherine Shaver in the Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer. He and hid wife resided in Herkimer until 1963 when they moved to Frankfort. At one time he was a skilled carpenter and in 1970 Mr. Weston went to work for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion where he was a machinist. He retired in May of 1990 after twenty years of dedicated service. Ira had a strong faith in God and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer where he served as a Lay Eucharist Minister. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4915 Herkimer and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #502 Frankfort. In his leisure he enjoyed watching professional wrestling. Mr. Weston will always be remembered as a down to earth gentleman. You could always feel a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family especially his church family. Surviving besides his loving wife of fifty-four years Katherine are one daughter Brenda Weston of Ilion, three brothers, Walter Weston of Frankfort, Charles Weston of McCall, SC, Jerry Weston of North Highlands, CA, three sister-in-laws, Marion Vincent of Utica, Barbara Collins of Chester, VA, Ilea Mae Weston of McCall, SC, .many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Stacey in 1983, brother-in-laws Jack Vincent, Fred Collins and Ray Lepper, his sister, Pauline Leper, a brother Herbert Weston, and sister-in-laws Teru and Joan. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be on Thursday at 11:00 am in the Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer with the Very Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector officiating. Committal service with military honors accorded by the US Air Force will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (today) from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
