Obituary

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Mr. Jack Sartor, 65, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at his home after a six-year battle with kidney cancer. Jack was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on May 17, 1941. He was the oldest son of Joseph Sartor and Elizabeth Lichtenberger Sartor of Towaco, New Jersey. He leaves his wife Carol Somers Sartor of Richfield Springs, his son Danny, his brother Gary (and Nancy) of West Virginia, his brother Carl (and Kathy) of New Jersey, and many loving friends and family. Jack was an Eagle Scout; attended Boonton High School in Boonton, New Jersey; served in the United States Navy during Vietnam; received his Associate of Arts degree from El Camino Real College in California; carried his license to pilot a plane; served as a member of the Towaco, New Jersey, Fire Department; was a Past Commander of American Legion Post 91 in Wharton, New Jersey and a member of the Forty and Eight Morris; attended Western School of Auctioneering in Billings, Montana; was a member of the New Jersey Society of Auctioneers where he won the first state bid-calling contest; obtained his CAI from the Certified Auctioneers Institute; joined the United States Army National Guard; earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson in Madison, New Jersey; and belonged to the Richfield Springs Book Club. Jack was self-employed; as a 2nd generation son of Italian descent, it was inevitable that he would participate in the main family business which was ceramic tile. He was also an auctioneer. Jack was a Roman Catholic who attended mass at Sacred Heart in Dover, New Jersey, where he was married on July 29, 1972, and at St. Josephs in Richfield Springs. Jack was an intelligent man, a patient teacher, and a lot of fun who liked people. He played Santa Claus for 20 years for the whole month of December, marched in parade after parade as Uncle Sam, and was the emcee for several cabarets. In addition to Jacks noted achievements, he was a very good man and a truly inspiring individual. Six years ago, Jack received the prognosis of only six months to live.Did he struggle? Oh, yes. Was he overwhelmed?Besieged? Weighed down?Very much so. He experienced a new loss every day and suffered deeply-physically, emotionally, and mentally. No, it wasnt a smooth path, but the bright spark inside of this loving, good man fought the diseases and he turned the six months into six years. Mr. Ron Hess of J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home has arranged services to be held on Jacks 65th birthday, Wednesday, May 17, at an 11am mass at St. Josephs on Canadarago Street in Richfield Springs.Jack and his wife Carol thank everyone who helped him lighten his load through this ordeal. Carol can be reached at 32 West James Street, POBox 811, Richfield Springs, New York 13439, 315-858-6877. God bless us everyone.
