HERKIMER-Jacqueline D. Spanfelner age 79 of Maple Grove Avenue passed away on Friday September 3, 2010 in Saint Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on March 31, 1931 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Alphons A. and Florence Zeidel Drabent. A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of Mohawk High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She furthered her education at the Collegeof Saint Rose in Albany where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Economics and Business Education. Jacqueline first taught school in the Saint Johnsville School system. In 1973 she began teaching in the Herkimer Central Schools first as a Social Studies Teacher in HerkimerMiddle School and later as a Business Education Teacher at Herkimer High School. Mrs. Spanfelner retired in 1990
On October 17, 1953 she was united in marriage with James W. Spanfelner in Saint Josephs Church, Herkimer.
Mrs. Spanfelner had a strong belief in God and was a Member of the Church of Sts. Anthonyand Joseph in Herkimer where she was a member of the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the Herkimer County Retired Teachers Association.
To all who knew her, she was a caring and loving person who was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her devoted husband of fifty-six years James, three sons Kevin J. Spanfelner of Vestal, James M. Mickey Spanfelner and his wife Amy of Fayetteville, John P. Spanfelner and his wife Alice of Ilion, a daughter, Kathleen S. Kane and her husband Gregory of Lawrenceville, GA, six grandchildren, Allison Kane of Atlanta, GA, , Andrew Kane of Auburn, GA, Amy Larson and her husband Anthony of Monroe, GA, Patrick Spanfelner of Fayetteville, Heather Spanfelner of Long Island and Douglas Spanfelner of Frankfort, two great grandchildren Alexander and Matthew Larson of Monroe, GA, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Kane in 1978, a daughter-in-law Mary Beth Boucher in 1995 and her brother, Robert Drabent in 1999.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Tuesday at 8:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 am in the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Thomas Lawless, Pastor will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer or the Herkimer Professional Fire Fighters Benevolent Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
