RICHFIELD SPRINGS-James Terry Crandall age 84 passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning July 20, 2016 in Albany Medical Center. He had the support and comfort of his wife Barbara at his side. He was born on June 24, 1932 in Ilion, son of the late Arthur and Harriette Rasbach Crandall. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Ilion High School. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1957. He then moved to Richfield Springs coming from Ilion. Mr. Crandall furthered his education at Oneonta State Teachers College where he received a Bachelors Degree in education and Utica College where he received his Masters Degree. For seventeen years Mr. Crandall worked in School Administration. He served at Richfield Springs Central School, Barringer Road School in Ilion and the East Frankfort School. He retired in 1985. On July 19, 1975 he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Doig on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown. Terry had a strong sense of community; he was a member of American Legion Post # 616 Richfield Springs, a member of the Canadrago Lake Association and had served as President of the Richfield Springs Lions Club. Mr. Crandall was an accomplished Scuba Diver. He at one time was President of the New York State Scuba Divers and a member of the Bateau Below Inc. at Lake George. To all who knew him he was a caring, energetic man with an exceptional intellect and an unforgettable smile. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Surviving are his devoted wife of forty one years, Barbara, a daughter-in-law Joyce Crandall of Lafayette, LA, a brother-in-law Richard Doig and his wife Patricia, two nephews, Brandon, Kim, Wyatt and Derrick Doig all of Cape Neddick, ME, a cousin, Donna Angelichio of Ilion, and his faithful canine Brooke. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son Mark Stuart Crandall.
Calling hours for Mr. Crandall will be on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am in front of the flag pole at the Richfield Springs Veterans Club on Lake Avenue, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Kenneth Dingman officiating. Military Honors provided the US Army will follow. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Herkimer. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society or the Richfield Springs Lions Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
