EXETER - James Evangelow, 79, of Angel Hill Road, entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 9, 2005, in his home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1925, in New York City, son of the late Soterious and Evanthia Evangelow.
James was raised in New York City and was a graduate of New York City public schools.
An honorably discharged United States Army veteran, he served during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award.
He was married to Gladys Davies Evangelow, who died in 1991.
For the past 52 years, Mr. Evangelow had resided in Burlington Flats. He was a draftsman for more than 25 years with the Bendix Corporation in Utica, retiring in 1991.
To all who knew James, he was a quiet man who enjoyed his solitude. He will be missed by his friends and family.
Surviving are two sons, David A. Evangelow of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and James W. Evangelow and his wife, Wendie, of Burlington Flats; three daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Steven Davis of Virginia, Madeline and Harry Eckler of Arizona, and Marianne and Charles Demorest of Burlington Flats; one brother, Angelo Evangelow and his wife, Margie, of New York City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, Gladys, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alex and George Evangelow.
A graveside service will be in the Exeter Center Cemetery at a time convenient to the family.
