MOHAWK-James H. Hennings age 59 of New York Street, entered into eternal rest on Thursday evening September 9, 2004 in his home. He had the comforting presence of his family at his side.
He was born on February 19, 1945 in Herkimer son of the late Henry l. and Dorothy T. Schultz Hennings. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Herkimer High School, Central City Business Institute and furthered his education at Syracuse University.
On October 2, 1965 he married the former Marie Spadafore in Messina. They have reside in Mohawk since 1974 coming from Herkimer.
Mr. Hennings was employed as the Supervisor for the Technical Test and Measurements Lab at Remington Arms for forty years. In the 1970s he also worked as a Herkimer County Deputy Sheriff.
Jim was active in his community as a member of the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department for over twenty years and had served as Fire Chief form 1994 until 1996. He was also a member of the Exempts organization. Mr. Hennings was an original volunteer of MOVAC. He enjoyed spending time at his camp in Richfield with family and friends. At one time he was President of the Canadrago Lake Improvement Association. Jim with his wife Marie enjoyed taking fall trips to the State of Maine, celebrating many of their October Wedding Anniversaries. A member of the Ilion Fish and Game Club, he had a strong love for the outdoors and nature. He loved to fish, hunt, go snowmobiling and boating.
To all that knew Jim they will remember his warm smile and friendly manner. He will be greatly missed by many especially his family.
Surviving are his loving wife of thirty-eight years Marie, two sons, Jeff and his wife Kelly Hennings of Mohawk, John Hennings of Herkimer, two grandchildren Andrew Hennings of Herkimer, Katelyn Hennings of Mohawk, three aunts, Doris Hennings of Clinton, Dorothy Schultz of Utica, Gladys Stockbridge of Clark Mills, three nieces, Kathy Peets of Utica, Alison and Danielle Rockwood of Syracuse, one nephew Robert Peets of Massena, several cousins, three sister-in-laws and their husbands, Margaret and Terry Peets, Janet and Ernie Rockwood, Patricia and Tom Hays.
Funeral service will take place on Monday at 11:00 am in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Norman Heid will officiate. Mr. Hennings will be laid to rest in Mohawk Cemetery. The family will present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Members of the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department are asked to meet at the funeral home at 8 :30 pm for services.
