HERKIMER ILION James P. Richardson, age 82, of Claxton Manor, formerly of Forge Hill Estates, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, in Bassett Hospital , Cooperstown .
He was born on July 26, 1923, in Frankfort, son of the late Paris and Ella Williams Richardson. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Frankfort , Ilion and Van Hornesville. He proudly served his country during WW II. Enlisting on November 10, 1942, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 11th Army Division, serving under General Pattons Third Army. In 1949 he married the former Florence Leaf in Little Falls. They shared a devoted union of thirty-seven years until her passing on June 13, 1986.
For many years he worked as a truck driver first for Grose Brothers of Ilion an retiring from General Electric in 1984. Mr. Richardson was of the Methodist faith and attended the Ilion Methodist Church .
He was a member of the Michael Pliseck VFW Post # 4915. James will always be remembered as a gentle, caring and giving man. He enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds however it was always his family that held the utmost importance in his life.
Surviving are a sister Florence Scanlon of Gloversville, a daughter Gloria Rognlie and her husband Eric of Bullard, TX , a granddaughter, Kim Harcum of Suffolk, VA , a grandson, Lee Rognlie of Dallas TX, many nieces, nephews including a special nephew James Scanlon of Ilion, and several cousins including a special cousin Thelma Scanlon of Gloversville. Besides his parents and wife Florence, he was preceded in death by a son Wayne Kohli and four sisters.
A Graveside service will be held at Mt. View Memorial Gardens on Monday June 19th. Memorial donations may be made to American Lung Assn, 5096 Commercial Dr , Yorkville , NY 13495 .
