MOHAWK - James D. Schultz age 69 of Firman Street passed away peacefully on Sunday evening December 7, 2008 in St. Lukes Memorial Medical Center, New Hartford.
He was born on January 3, 1939 in Cooperstown, son of the late Gilbert and Mary Tennant Schultz. A lifelong area resident, Jim was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. On August 1, 1964 he was united in marriage with the former Kathy Mang in the Ilion Baptist Church. They made their home in Columbia Center until 1980 when they moved to Mohawk. For thirty-three years Mr. Schultz worked as a service technician for Montgomery Wards in Herkimer and Riverside Mall, Utica. He retired in 1999.
He was member of the Columbia Center United Methodist Church. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening in his strawberry patch and restoring old cars. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his five grandchildren. Jim was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving besides his loving wife of forty-four years Kathy, are a son, Timothy Schultz and his wife Michele of Mohawk, a daughter Sheila Hosler of Ilion, two brothers, William Schultz and his wife Ruth of Springfield Center, Joseph Schultz of Fort Plain, two sisters, Eleanor Garnsey of Richfield Springs, Barbara Miklick and her husband Richard of Little Falls, five grandchildren, Shelby, Connor and Abbey Schultz of Mohawk, Carly and Ashley Hosler of Ilion, his mother-in-law, Gertrude Mang of Mohawk, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by seven brothers, two sisters and his father-in-law William Mang.
Funeral service will be on Thursday at 7:30 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend Robert Wollaber, Pastor of the Ilion United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place next spring in Mohawk Cemetery. The family will be present the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:30 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the sixth floor staff at St Lukes Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Malanpati, Dr. Mondon and a special thank you to his devoted sister Barbara for all the care and compassion shown to Jim during his long illness.
