Obituary

HERKIMER - James E. Smith, 59, of Steuben Hill Road, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 6, 2000. He was born on January 30, 1941, in Lyons Dale, a son of the late Stanley S. and Evelyn B. Watson Smith. He was raised and educated in Lyons Falls. Formerly of Stittsville he moved to Herkimer in 1981 when he married Barbara (BJ) Tyrrell. He had worked as a skilled carpenter and built Adirondack furniture. He was a member of the Church of Saint Anthony and Joseph, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Surviving besides his devoted wife of 19 years, Barbara, are his children; Jennifer Lee Smith, of the home address, William Skutch and his wife Cristie of Dallas TX, Mary Rivers and her husband Tim, and John Smith, all of Lake George, Joseph Smith, Elizabeth Bearden, Jerome Smith all of Florida; his brothers and sisters, Eileen Smith Arcuri and her husband Fred of Cold Brook, Ronald S. Smith of Rochester, Dawn Snyder of Oriskany, Linda Smith Brown of Clinton, fourteen grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son James E. Smith Jr. Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street will be on Monday at 8:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30a.m in the Church of Saint Anthony and Joseph. The Reverend Robert S. Shinos, pastor, will officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
