HERKIMER - Jane E. Jones, 80, of Lake Street, passed away on Monday morning, Sept. 11, 2006, in Valley Health Services Inc. She was born on Aug. 16, 1926, in Utica, daughter of the Harriett Clemens Wood and the late Irving A. Wood. Jane was raised and educated in Chadwicks and graduated from Sauquoit High School.
On Sept. 30, 1944, she was united in marriage with Gordon A. Jones in Sauquoit. In 1949, she and her husband moved from Chadwicks to Ilion and five years later to Herkimer, where they have resided since. She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. Jane's life was all about her home and family. She would relax by sewing, knitting, reading and doing puzzles. Her family will never forget the warm aromas at home when she baked and cooked. She always delighted in being with her many friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be truly missed. Surviving besides her husband of 61 years, Gordon, her mother Harriett, a son, Steven Jones of Utica; two daughters, Janet Riesel and Joan E. Jones, both of Herkimer; one brother, Irving and his wife Norma Wood of Elbridge; three grandchildren, Cheryl and her husband Mike Cristman, Brian and his wife Brenda Riesel, all of Herkimer, Mary and her husband Gary Clark of Virginia Beach, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Emily and Danielle of Virginia Beach and Jenna of Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Stockbridge; a great-granddaughter, Mariah Riesel; and son-in-law, Ernest Cub Riesel. Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer. The Rev. Patti Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer, will officiate. Interment will follow in New Forrest Cemetery, Utica. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Make a Wish Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
