MOHAWK – Janet Elaine Lewis, age 89, died on Friday morning November 29, 2024, in the Wynn Hospital, Utica. She was born on November 29, 1935 in Scott Township, PA a daughter of the late Roy and Bessie (Lowell) Tarbox. On April 8, 1962, she married Benjamin Lewis in North East, PA. They shared a devoted and loving marriage of 36 years until his passing on April 2, 1998. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer. Janet enjoyed reading, cooking and gardening, especially herbs and flowers. She was a talented quilter, but her happiest times were those shared with her family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving her are one son, James Lewis and his wife Janet of Mechanicville; two daughters, Diane DesJardins and her husband Ronald, and Julie Lewis, all of Mohawk; six grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Keagan, Makiah, Brinlee, and Ava; a brother, Leroy Tarbox; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband Ben, she was preceded in death by all her other siblings. Funeral service will be on Thursday December 5th at 1:00 pm, in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. Reverend Joelle Faulks, pastor will officiate. There are no calling hours. Interment in Oak Hill cemetery will take place next spring. Memorial donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 217 North Prospect Street, Herkimer, 13350. Envelopes will be available at the church.
