HERKIMER - Janice D. Anderson, 61, of Valley Health Services, Herkimer, and formerly of Barneveld and Utica, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2004, after a courageous 16-year battle with cancer. Janice was born in Utica, NY, and attended Utica Free Academy and later graduated from MVCC with honors. Janice also attended the Carmelite Monastery of Santa Clara, CA, and steadfastly maintained the devoted work of the Lord throughout her life. She was a United States Air Force veteran serving in the Women's Air Force Band as an accomplished Clarinetist. She was also a Violinist. The highlight of her US Air Force career was her participation in the 1961 Presidential Inauguration of John F. Kennedy in Washington, DC. Janice was also employed by the United States Federal Reserve Bank, New York Telephone Co., Rome Developmental Center, and the Mother-To-Be Store. Janice was married to Wiley Anderson of Barneveld, NY; and leaves two sons, Lansing and Gregory; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Dwight Schuman; and grandchildren, Trevor and Bradley Serra of Rochester, NY; her brothers and their wives, Ron and May Duff of Irvine, CA, and Gary and Joan Duff of Deerfield; nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friends, Becky Krupski, Benda Wetherington, and Sister Eileen of Santa Clara, CA. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Valley Health Services Palliative Care, Herkimer, NY, by making Janice's life journey complete through providing a level of professional care and compassion that was outstanding. The family would also like to thank Pastor Robert Wells, Bahram Omidian, M.D., Thomas F. Ryan, Jr., M.D., and Hospice Care, New Hartford. In keeping with Janice's wishes, there will be no calling hours. She wished to simply be remembered in your thoughts and prayers. A private memorial service will be held at a future date in the spring.
