HERKIMER - Janis Becker, 70, of West Lake Street, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, in Faxton Healthcare, Utica. She was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Sidney, the daughter of the late Archie and Iola Cole Fischer. A local area resident since childhood, she graduated from Mohawk High School. On Sept. 16, 1950, she married Quentin A. Becker in Herkimer. For over 20 years she worked as a ward clerk in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, retiring in 1987. Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Quentin A. Becker; two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Robert Dingman of Herkimer and Sandra and Kevin Leonard of Ilion; three grandchildren, Timothy Dingman, Kimberly Dingman and Kristin Leonard; her brother-in-law, Leon and his wife Marion Becker; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Morse, all of Herkimer; a devoted friend, Joan McCumber of Mohawk; and a special family friend, Dawn Brown of Ilion; many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Central New York Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 507 Kent St., Utica. Arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
