Obituary

HERKIMER - Jay A. Miller, age 83, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2006, in St. Elizabeth Hospital , Utica . He was born on March 11, 1923 in Jersey City , NJ, son of the late Flavius and Florence Van Allen Miller. As a young boy his family moved from the city area, graduating from Sharon Springs High School and Herkimer County Community College . On February 12, 1958 he married the former Florence Schoen in Holy Trinity Church , Valley Stream, Long Island . He and his wife moved to Herkimer during that year. He worked in the export division of UNIVAC later known as Unisys in New York City and transferred to Ilion in 1963. He retired in 1988 from Mohawk Data Sciences. Mr. Miller had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Christian life. A member of Christ Episcopal Church, he had served on the Vestry, and was an usher for many years. Jay enjoyed reading, especially studying history. In his leisure time he was never one to idly watch television, there was always a jigsaw puzzle in progress. A devoted husband, father and grandfather he will be remembered as a kind and caring person always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be missed by many especially his family. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Florence, a son and daughter-in-law David (Devon) and Krystaleve Miller, a grandson Brandon Miller all of West Chester, PA, a sister-in-law Carol Martin of Lawrence, GA, one brother-in-law and his wife Paul and Barbara Schoen, of Ridge, LI many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Andrew Scott Miller on May 2, 1975, his brother Flavius Miller and sister Dorothy Miller. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be held on Thursday 11:00 am in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Paul Bailey, rector, will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery . The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to received relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Christ Episcopal Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
