Obituary

HERKIMER- E. Jean DiLoreto, age 74, of Gray Street, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday afternoon March 14, 2009 in Faxton-St Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on March 21, 1934 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Samuel and Eva Sadlon Maytan. A lifelong Herkimer resident she was a graduate of Herkimer High School. Jean graduated from high school when she was seventeen years old and immediately went to work as private secretary for Robert Castle, with the Castle Ford Dealership in Herkimer. The Castle Ford business eventually became Castle Enterprises where she maintained the same position for forty two years, retiring in 1994. On March 10, 1983, she was united in marriage with Eugene DiLoreto in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer. The Reverend William Preuss officiated. Mrs. DiLoreto had a true sense of community and enjoyed doing for others. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer where she sang in the church choir and was a member, past president and secretary of WELCA. Jean had a devoted interest in the Valley Health Services. She was a member of the Valley Helpers and had served as their secretary. She freely used her musical talent by playing the piano at the religious services and many times during the dinner hour for the residents. She was also a member of the Zontas and the Herkimer Lady Elks. To all who knew her, they will remember a loving, caring and hopeful person who was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband of twenty six years Eugene and his children, Alan DiLoreto of Littleton, CO, Diana Maring of Johnstown, one sister, Eva Ann Norton and her husband Lyle of Nassau, NY, two nieces and one nephew, two grandchildren, Rebecca LaLonde and her husband Brian of Johnstown, Jason Maring and his wife Melissa of Thornton, NH and three great grandchildren. Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in Trinity Evangelical Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Ann Zimmerman, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer or the Valley Helpers. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
