HERKIMER-Jean Ervin age 79 of 105 Protection Avenue formerly of Newport passed away on Monday afternoon September 16, 2002 in Little Falls Hospital with the comfort of her loving family at her side.
She was born on November 28, 1922 in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Edmund and Thekla Bartels. She was raised and educated in Brooklyn. On June 28, 1947 she married Edward "Butch" Ervin in Brooklyn, a devoted union of over fifty years until his passing on November 29, 1997. For many years Jean worked as a fabric inspector for the Duofold Company in both Mohawk and Ilion retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Ervin had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Episcopal life. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. She also was a fifty year member of Kuyahoora Chapter # 145 Order of the Eastern Star, the West Canada Valley American Legion Post # 1524 Ladies Auxiliary, the Daughters of the Nile, AARP and the Kuyahoora Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two sons and their wives; Alan and Catherine Ervin of Mohawk, Richard and Kathaleen Ervin of Fairfield, a daughter; Elizabeth Jane Ervin of Herkimer, six grandchildren; Christopher, Mary, Matthew, Brian, Karen and Eric Ervin, three great grandchildren Paige Ford, Riley Scanlon, Chaise Ford and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Butch her sister Ruth Hofstedter preceded her in death.
Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be on Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Christ Episcopal Church Herkimer. The Reverend Steven A. Scarcia will officiate. Following the service Mrs. Ervin will be laid to rest in the Middleville Cemetery. The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday (today) from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Kuyahoora Chapter # 145 Order of the Eastern Star or the Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Members of West Canada Valley American Legion Post # 1524 Ladies Auxiliary are asked to meet in the funeral home at 7:15PM for ritualistic services. Members of Kuyahoora Chapter # 145 O.E.S. are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 PM for their service and the Daughters of the Nile for services at 7:45 PM.
