HERKIMER - Jean Hext Mlinar Lytwynec, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in FoltsBrook Rehabilation and Nursing Home, Herkimer.
She was born on June 16, 1932, in Mohawk, a daughter of the late Peter and Inez (Dyer) Hext. She was a lifelong area resident who received her education in Mohawk Schools. On June 16, 1951 she married William Mlinar in Little Falls. They shared a loving marriage of fifteen years until his passing in September of 1966. She later married Joseph Lytwynec on December 28, 1971, mutually separating in 1977.
For many years Jean was self-employed as owner/operator of The Coffee Shop in Little Falls. Later in life she was a seamstress for Duofold Manufacturing Company in Ilion retiring in 1995.
In her younger years she was an avid league bowler. She loved the NY Yankees and the Syracuse Orange football and basketball teams Always watching the games that weren't past her bedtime and if they weren't on TV, she would listen on the radio. She also enjoyed her weekly card games with friends and family. She was a gifted seamstress who enjoyed creating items for her loved ones. She was an amazing cook and baker. She had the best spaghetti sauce recipe, awesome apple and pumpkin pies for every holiday meal and her famous potica at Christmas. Jean passed on her love of cooking and her recipes to many of her family.
Jean loved her tight knit family, enjoying many trips and vacations with them. She loved to gather up the kids and grandkids and take them to the Parkside Drive-in in St. Johnsville. She was known to drop whatever she was doing to spend time with her family. Her family fondly remembers her love and kindness which never seemed to end. There was always an abundance of love to give which she also instilled in her family. She was loved and will never be forgotten.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, William and Michele Mlinar,of Herkimer, Peter and Lisa Mlinar of Mohawk, two daughters, Jennifer Mulready and her husband Sean of Boston, MA, Susan Mlinar of Mohawk, five grandchildren, Neil and Olivia Mlinar of Herkimer, Nicole (Fred) Thomas of Mohawk, Michael Mlinar and (Caitlynn Riesel) of Ilion, Luke Mulready of Boston, MA, one great grandson, Edward Mlinar along with two bonus great-grandchildren, Riley and Mason Lowery of Ilion. She was also awaiting the birth of her first great –granddaughter, Harper Thomas due in September. She is also survived by many nieces nephews and one very special friend who she shared special memories with, William (Bill) Ward of Herkimer.
Besides her parents and husband William, she was preceded in death by all her siblings, Buddy Hext, Donald Hext, Marion Helmer, Norma Harper and Ann Sohns. Due to COVID-19, there will be no public calling hours.
A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 29th at 10:30 am in St. Mary's Cemetery , East Herkimer, with Pastor Dwayne Durand officiating. She will be laid to rest with her late husband William Mlinar.
