MOHAWK-Jean Shirley Thompson, age 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, April 19, 2018, in Faxton-Saint Lukes Medical Center, New Hartford. She had the love and support of her devoted family at her side.
Jean was born on January 6, 1925, in Ilion, daughter of the late Floyd C. and Edith Mae Parker Getman. A lifelong Mohawk resident, she was a graduate of Mohawk High School with the class of 1943. After graduation she went to work as a secretary at the Remington Rand Company for a few years. On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harry B. Thompson at the family home in Paines Hollow. They shared a blessed union of thirty-three years until his passing on September 9, 1980.
Jean had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church where she was in the Tri-D Class. After the closing of the Mohawk congregation she transferred her membership to the Morning Star United Methodist Church in Ilion/Frankfort where as a member she regularly attended services. Mrs. Thompson was a kind, caring and hopeful lady whose life was devoted mainly toward the love of her family. In her leisure time she found much relaxation in knitting and reading. Her family will never forget those sweet aromas that came from the Thompson kitchen of baking and homemade jellies. Jean was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family, especially her cherished grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving her are three daughters, Donna Thompson of Mohawk, Susan Harkins of Ilion and Pamela Thompson, DC, of Adams, two step-daughters Edith Gallogly of Mohawk and Phyllis Moffatt and her husband Vern of Herkimer, twelve grandchildren, Brenda and JP Waldron, Calif, Gail and Paul Whittaker of Mohawk, Diane and Roger Dygert of Durhamville, Chip and Sheila Gallogly of Oneida, Bob and Robin Gallogly of West Winfield, Doug and Jackie Gallogly of Florida, Karen Lopez of Richfield Springs, Dan Moffatt of Mohawk, David Moffatt of Herkimer, Laura and Jeremy Moore of Mohawk, Jennifer and Rusty Corron of Belleville, Deanna and Matt Kenyon of West Henrietta,
