RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Jesse Lee Garner Jr., age 85 passed away on Friday morning May 30,2014 in Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown with his loving family by his side.
He was born on May 25, 1929 in Leapwood, TN, son of the late Jesse L. and Daisy Phillips Garner. Jesse had served with the US Air Force and was honorably discharged at Rome Air Force Base in 1950. On November 24, 1950 he was united in marriage with the former Elizabeth Betty J. Bardo in Utica. For thirty-five years, Mr. Garner worked as a machine operator for O.W. Hubbel & Sons in New York Mills.He retired in 1991.
Jesse loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping with his good buddy Ed Schell. He enjoyed snowmobiling with his family and friends and was a member of the Canadarago Snowtoppers. He also was a member of the Richfield Springs Veterans Club and the New York State Trappers Association.In his leisure time he was an avid New York Yankees fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Betty, a son, Robert E. Garner of Richfield Springs, two daughters, Gail A. Cortese and her husband Michael of Rome, Kathy L. Acker of Richfield Springs, seven grandchildren, Christopher, Shannon, Amanda, Justin M., Justin C., Jessica and Melissa, seven great grandchildren, Richie, Noah, Caelyn, Nicholas, Justin, Joshua and Eli, three sisters, Elwanda Powers, Mary Jones and her husband Bob, Judy McBee and her husband Rex all of TN, several nieces, nephews, great nieces , great nephews and cousins.Jesse leaves behind many friends, including his good friend John Maine and his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Calling hours for Mr. Garner will be on Saturday June 7th from 1:00 until 4:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs.There will be a celebration of Jesses life immediately following at the Genesee Restaurant, 38 Lake Street; Richfield Springs from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
In lieu flowers please consider memorial donations be made to the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, The Shriners Hospital of Massachusetts or the charity of your choice.Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
