RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Joan P. Starr age 76 of Main Street passed away on Tuesday evening April 14, 2009 in her home. She had the peace and comfort of her devoted daughter Patricia Bukovsky and granddaughter April at her side.
She was born on June 3, 1932 in the Bronx, daughter of the late John and Emma Marr Laverty. Joan was raised in the Bronx and was a graduate of Sacred Heart of Saint Mary Academy. She was the widow of Robert D. Starr who died on January 18, 1983. Mrs. Starr was employed by the New York Telephone Company in the Bronx, retiring in 1960. She has made her home Richfield Springs since 1965 coming from New York.
Joan had a strong belief in God and led a devoted Catholic life. She was a member of Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs and a member of the Richfield Springs American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. To all who knew her, they will remember a caring, loving helpful person who was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving her are four daughters, Patricia Bukovsky of Richfield Springs, Keri Paulini and her husband Robert of Allentown, PA, Robin Smith and her husband Monty K. of Leesburg, VA, Tina Petti and her husband Jack of Rochester, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two cousins. Besides her parents and husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Laverty in 1979.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 1, 2009 at 11:00 am in Saint Josephs Church, Richfield Springs with the Reverend Terence Healy officiating. Interment will follow in Saint Josephs Cemetery.
The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street: Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members of the Richfield Springs American Legion Ladies Auxiliary are asked to meet at the funeral home today (Thursday) at 6:30 pm for ritualistic services.
