Richfield Springs-Joan Evelyn Thompson age 85 passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon July 16, 2016 in her home. She had the comfort of her loving family at her side. She was born on October 22, 1930 in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late Charles Milton and Pearl A. Smith Lennebacker. A lifelong Richfield Springs resident she graduated from Richfield Springs High School with the class of 1949 and furthered her education, graduating from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. On May 28, 1971 she was united in marriage to Lyle M. Thompson in Richfield Springs. They shared a loving and devoted union of thirty-three years until his passing in 2004. Mrs. Thompson worked for twenty-eight years as Clerk-Treasurer for the Richfield Springs Central School. For eleven years she was co-owner of Haskells Inn and Hotel in Cold Brook and for ten years with Otsego New York Connects. She retired in 1999. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing bingo and mah-jongg. Joan was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family and will be truly missed by all.
Surviving are a son, Brett Thompson and his wife Barbara of Boise ID, three daughters, Kim Butler and her husband Gene of East Herkimer, Kelly Brown and her husband Rick of Old Forge, Nell Thompson of Palatine Bridge, a daughter-in-law, Diane Thompson of Cold Brook, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, niece, Darshan Fresco and her husband Jim of Ilion, nephew, Charles Newell, III of TN. Besides her parents and husband Lyle she was preceded in death by one son, Mark Thompson and a sister Patricia Newell.
It was Joans request that her funeral service be private and at the convenience of the family.
