RICHFIELD SPRINGS- Joe S. Kleban, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, August 25, 2014 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. He was born on January 24, 1928 in the Town of Columbia, the son of the late John and Mary (Martyniw) Kleban. He was raise in the Town of Columbia, educated in Columbia and Richfield Springs Schools. On August 2, 1952, he married Vivian May Ackler in Richfield Springs at the home of her parents. They celebrated 62 years of marriage, residing in Richfield Springs. He worked on the family farm in the town of Columbia, then over 31 years at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company in Utica retiring in 1990. He proudly served as an International Association of Machinist Union Representative, shop steward, for many years during his employment. After retirement he enjoyed retrieving cars for the Skinner and Damulis dealership, yard work, tinkering with watches, feeding the birds and most often sitting on the front porch. He loved animals, especially dogs. Besides his wife of 62 years, Vivian, he leaves a daughter, Theresa M. Willemsen and her husband Frank of Richfield Springs, a nephew John Kleban of Richfield Springs, several nieces, nephews, cousins, step-granddaughter, Stacey Barnett, and her husband Christopher of Little Falls and their children. He was predeceased by his brothers Walter and Nicholas Kleban and a step-brother Jacob Martyniw. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 29 at 11:00am in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James Street, Richfield Springs. Interment will be at the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Thursday, August 28 from 4:00-7:00pm. Those who wish, may make expression of sympathy in his memory at the SPCA. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
