HERKIMER-Johann R. Heimann (John) age 82 passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon June 3, 2017 at the Abraham House, Utica. He had the comfort and support of his loving family at his side. John was born on July 22, 1934 in Obertiefenbach, Germany, son of the late Josef and Maria Capitain Heimann. He was a graduate of Obertiefenbach High School where he learned his trade at upholstering. He came to this country as a young man and worked in Albany. On October 29, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elfreide A. Mai in Albany. They moved to Herkimer in 1957 where he worked in the Upholstery Department at Mungers Department Store before starting his own business, Johns Upholstery on North Main Street. He retired in 2015. Mr. Heimann had a strong faith in God and was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. He was also a long time member the Herkimer Elks Lodge # 1439, The Utica Commercial Travelers and the Utica German Maennaerchor. In his leisure time he enjoyed walks in the woods. To those who knew him will always remember him as a hardworking, dedicated and honest business man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be sadly missed. Surviving are his devoted wife of sixty-one years, Elfreide, two daughters, Gisel Teachout and her husband David of Herkimer, Jordan Max of Dartmouth, MA, a sister Agnes Brem and her husband Sepp of Frankfort, Germany, two grandchildren, Christopher Teachout of Los Angeles, CA , Cameron Teachout and his wife Sarah of Alder Creek, Several nieces, nephews and cousins in Germany. A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am in Saint Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. In lieu of flowers Please consider donations to the Abraham House, 1203 Kemble Street; Utica, NY 13501 or Hospice.
