Obituary

HERKIMER - John M. Bailey age 91 of 104 North Washington Street formerly of Margaret Street passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon October 2, 2007 in Folts Homes. He was born on October 26, 1915 in Fulton, son of the late Ernest and Pauline Barker Bailey. As a youngster John moved with his family to Herkimer where he was raised and educated. On July 13, 1942 he married the former Katherine Lynch in St Francis deSales Church Herkimer. A loving union of fifty-nine years Mrs. Bailey passed away on June 2, 2001. Mr. Bailey worked as Gun Assembler for the Remington Arms Company in Ilion. He retired in 1976 after thirty-five years of dedicated service. John was a member of the Remington Arms Twenty-five Year Club, had served as a Herkimer Volunteer Fireman, was active with the Boy Scouts of America General Herkimer Council and coached CYO Basketball at St Francis deSales Church. To his many friends John will always be remembered as a kind and gentle man with a genuine interest in others. He was a strong willed man who stood tall no matter what set backs he encountered in life. He will be greatly missed by many especially his family. Surviving are his daughter-in-law Kay Bailey of Herkimer, five grandchildren, Sharon DeBiase, Daniel Bailey, Michelle Carney, Brett Bailey, and Brooke Mead, many great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife Katherine he was preceded in death by two sons, Daniel Bailey and James Bailey, a brother Clyde Bailey and a sister Eleanor Connolly. A Memorial Service will be on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Reverend David Kirkpatrick will officiate. Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. There are no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Revolutionary Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
