FAIRFIELD-John Joseph Barscz Jr. age 74, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday February 22, 2022, in his home.
He was born on June 29, 1947 in Herkimer, son of the late John J. and Lois Kenyon Barscz. A lifelong area resident he graduated from Herkimer High School with class of 1965. He furthered his education at Paul Smith Junior College. In 1970 he went to work for the New York State Department of Transportation and then the New York State Department of Conservation as a Park Ranger retiring in 2001.
On November 27, 1976, he was united in marriage to the former Christine Bowman in Saint Joseph's RC Church in Herkimer. They made their home and raised their family in Fairfield. Mr. Barscz was a member of Saint Francis deSales Church in Herkimer. In his leisure time he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and bird hunting. His relaxation was watching a good NASCAR race on TV. To his many friends he will always be remembered as a funny, hardworking man who built his very own log cabin. He will he sadly missed.
Surviving him are his loving wife of forty-five years Christine, a son Michael Barscz of Little Falls, a step-son, Sean Williams of Oswego, one grandson, Bradlee Barscz of Frankfort and several cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Christopher Barscz and a sister Laureen Barscz.
A graveside funeral service will take place later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Mark Cunningham officiating. There are no public calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
