John E Begley's Obituary

HERKIMER-John E. Begley age 89 of 104 North Washington Street (Claxton Manor) passed away unexpectedly on Saturday January 27, 2007. He was born on July 29, 1917 in Little Falls son of the late Edward S. and Bertha L. Callister Begley. John was raised in Little Falls and graduated from Little Falls High School with the class of 1935. A veteran of World War II he served with the US Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank Chief Bosons Mate in 1947. For twenty-one years he worked as a program analyst for the US Air Force retiring in 1979. On April 3, 1961 he married Myrel Horwald Paracka in Paramus, NJ. A loving and devoted union of forty-four years until her passing on July 31, 2005. Throughout the years Mr. Begleys work has had him living in Ofallen, IL, Kansas City, MO, East Herkimer and Schenectady. He has resided in Claxton Manor, Herkimer since 2004. John had a strong belief in God and was a former member in of Saint Pauls Episcopal Church in Schenectady where he served as a Deacon and a current member of Christ Episcopal Church in Herkimer. He was a sixty-three year member of Little Falls Lodge #181 Free. & Accepted Masons where he served as Master in 1953, a member of Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. He at one time was active with the Boy Scouts of America serving as a Scout Master, and Scout Commissioner for several years with the General Herkimer Council BSA. John will always be remembered as a friendly well mannered gentleman with a quiet charm and an unforgettable smile. He was a man who only saw good in everyone he ever met. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Surviving are his children, John Jerome Begley of MA, Betsy Mabbett of Fort Plain, Richard Jan Paracka and his wife Wendy of New Port Richey, FL, Karol Sue Byers and her husband Wesley of Brockport, a sister, Jesse Keough of Saint Johnsville, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a nephew, James Keough and dearest friend and companion Kay Amore of Richfield Springs. Besides his parents and wife Myrel he was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Ann, two brothers James and Edward Begley. Funeral service with Holy Eucharist will be on Wednesday at 1:00 pm in Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer. The Reverend Paul Bailey, Rector will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring. His family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday (today) from 7:00 until 9:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the St Pauls Episcopal Church Memorial Fund or the Christ Church Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Member of Dolgeville Lodge #796 F. & A.M are asked to meet at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 8:00 pm for ritualistic services.
