HERKIMER-John W. Cannon, age 68 passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, May 22, 2022, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. John was born in Hillsboro, Florida on July 10, 1953. As a young child John attended school in Upstate, New York. In 1967 John moved to Staten Island until 1972. John moved to Herkimer, NY in 1974 where he became a valued member of Herkimer until his passing. Later in life John worked and volunteered his time. John took pride in volunteering at Meals on Wheels and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. John had a keen sense of humor and enjoyed "joking" around with others. He had a love for drinking soda and coffee while socializing at the local McDonalds with the morning coffee crew. John enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing cards, puzzles, bowling, dancing, and nature. He especially enjoyed going to church, eating out, watching, and participating in sports and going on vacation. John had a passion for Superman and Batman and is famous for wearing Superman and Batman T-shirts. John had a contagious one of a kind smile that would light up the room when he walked in. He left a lasting impression on all those that had an opportunity to be a part of his life. It was often said that John was the "Mayor" because wherever he went, he knew someone and would greet them with a friendly smile and a thumbs up. John will be greatly missed by all those that were lucky enough to know him. John is survived by many "family" and friends that he has made throughout his life. Special thank you to all who have supported and advocated for John throughout his life and St. Elizabeth's Nurses and staff who provided John with comfort and care during his final days.
