RICHFIELD SPRINGS - John R. Gogol, age 85, of County Highway 25A passed away peacefully onSaturday July 15, 2006 in his home.
He was born on February 15, 1921 in the Town of Warren a son of the late John and Mary Gogol. He was raised on the family farm and had attended Van Hornesville Central Schools. On June 14, 1947, he married the former Veronica Vicky Kodz in Saint Josephs Church in Herkimer. John had worked on the family farm and was employed as a Black Top Plant Operator at General Crushed Stone in Jordanville for 37 years until his retirement in 1985.
John was an avid outdoorsman, especially when it came to fishing and hunting. His greatest outdoors achievement was when he caught an eight point buck. He hunted and fished until he was 82 years old. Gardening was also a hobby of Johns, which, he truly enjoyed. He had great pride in the flower beds he grew and maintained at his home.
He was a friend to many and will be never forgotten.
Surviving him besides his wife of 59 years Veronica is a son Robert of Oppenheim, his grandson Carl also of Oppenheim, three sisters Helen, Frances, and Mary Luyczski all of Florida, a sister-in-law Lydia Konn, Herkimer and several nieces nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers Carl, Mitch, Stanley, and Ludwig, and a sister Ida Helpin.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
