RICHFIELD SPRINGS-John A. Hinckley, age 65, of County Highway #25, passed away on Wednesday evening October 5, 2011, in his home after an extended illness. He had the peace and comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on March 11, 1946, in Suffield, CT, son of the late George E. and Florence I. Swenson Hinckley. John was raised in Suffield where he graduated high school. He furthered his education at Beckley College in Beckley, WV. On December 31, 1980, he was united in marriage with the former Jacqueline Jackie Manning in the town of Warren. In 1989 they moved from Suffield to the town of Richfield and have resided there since.
Upon coming to this area Mr. Hinckley first worked in real estate with Bruce Ward & Company in Herkimer. In 1990 he went to work for the Herkimer County Trust Company where he became Senior Vice President. He retired in 2000. John was known for his expertise in computers, for the past ten years he has owned and operated a computer repair and programming business in Richfield Springs.
Mr. Hinckley had a strong belief in God and was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer where he served on the Church Council. John will always be remembered as a man with a true sense of community. He was a member of the Richfield Springs Lions Club, the Suffield Masonic Lodge and along with his wife Jackie was active in the former Zone now known as the Richfield Springs Community Center. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching NASCAR and Drag Racing on television. He loved the outdoors where he was a fisherman, hunter and golfer. He was also an avid bowler at one time. To all who knew him they will never forget a loving, caring and sincere man who was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his children and grandchildren and He will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides his devoted wife of thirty years, Jackie are three sons, John A. Hinckley Jr. of Buford, SC, Joshua C. Hinckley and his wife Ashley of Frankfort, Jeremy G. Hinckley of Rochester, three daughters and their husbands, Julie and Jaime Gavalo of Windsor, CT, Jacklyn and Paul Dzierwinski of Ludlow, MA, Justina and Sean Kane of Richfield Springs, ten grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, George E. Hinckley Jr. and a sister, Sharon Hinckley.
The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer to receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm.
Funeral service will take place on Sunday at 1:00 pm in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of West German Street and Henry Street in Herkimer. Victor Mark Hunstien will officiate. The Committal will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.
