EAST HERKIMER-John Edward Kaladjian age 85 passed away peacefully on Sunday evening July 31, 2016 in Homelife at Folts, Herkimer. He was born on June 2, 1931 in Ilion, son of the late John O. and Ida Teal Kaladjian. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Ilion High School. He furthered his education graduating from Schenectady Barber School. After barber school he entered the US Army serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953 attaining the rank of Corporal. On January 6, 1966 he was united in marriage to Helen DeParis in the Annunciation Church, Ilion. They first made their home in Mohawk and in 1978 moved to East Herkimer. Together they shared a loving and devoted union of thirty years until her passing on January 11, 1996. For many years Mr. Kaladjian owned and operated a barber shop next to Larry Pauls Gas Station in Mohawk and had cut hair at the Masonic Home in Utica. He also worked for UIVAC for twelve years and Mohawk Data Sciences for six years retiring in 1991. To those who knew him he was a kind, caring and generous man with a very strong will. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking and was known for the cut-outs that he made and donated to Folts Home, The House of Good Shepard and the Alpine Nursing Home at Christmas to decorate their tree. For the school children he made cut-outs of flowers for Mothers Day and Cars for Fathers Day which the children enjoyed painting and decorating. John was a truly remarkable man and will be sadly missed. Surviving him are his dear friends and care givers Anna and Keith VanNort. Besides his parents and wife Helen, he was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Kaladjian. Calling hours for Mr. Kaladjian will be on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. A funeral service follow immediately after at 7:00 pm in the funeral home with the Reverend Ann Wicks officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the US Army will be in the Cedarville Cemetery on Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
