MOHAWK -John Kosina, 70, of Mohawk, NY, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018 at his home. With the support of his group home staff, guided by the nursing staff at ARC, and the recent addition of Hospice Care, John lived out his remaining days with dignity and comfort. John grew up in Jamaica, NY and was predeceased by his parents Joseph J. and Mary Kosina, and elder brother Joseph W. Kosina. He is survived by his sister-in-law Teresa A. Kosina, his nephews William J. Kosina (Jean Kosina), James F. Kosina (Marie OHerien), Robert Kosina, and great niece Amy Kosina (SaxxonGonzalez). John lived with his mother until 1986 in Brentwood, NY and upon her passing moved in with his brother and family in West Winfield. His final residence was at his ARC group home in Mohawk. John made a great deal of friends working at ARC workshops, both on Long Island and in the Mohawk Valley, and at a day treatment program where he spent many of his final days. His smile, sense of humor, and surprisingly witty comments were second to none. All that knew him greatly appreciated his ability to take a situation and say a few words that only a stand-up comic could truly appreciate. Johns personality was bigger than life, always verbalizing what was on his mind.He could best be described as happy-go-lucky! Besides talking with family and friends, John loved bowling, and watching game shows. He loved to sing and had a natural musical ability. One of his favorite hobbies was to play the organ.Speaking of music, his favorite show was Name That Tune, and he was talentedat it! He could frequently name the bonus round song by listening to the clues and hearing only two or three notes from a piano. He will be greatly missed. On Saturday, April 7, John will be laid to rest next to his parents at Linden Hill Cemetery, Queens.
