Obituary

MOHAWK-John M. Kubecka, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, February 12, 2015. He was a local farmer and businessman. John was born on August 2, 1920, in New Berlin, a son of the late John and Anna Schmit Kubecka. He was raised and educated in New Berlin and Edmeston. On April 20, 1940 he was united in marriage to the former Anna Kiska in Little Falls. They shared a devoted union of seventy-two years until her passing on December 5, 2012. In 1938, John served in the Civilian Conservation Corp at Laurens, helping build the Gilbert State Park. In 1946 he purchased a farm in Paines Hollow which he worked with his family. In 1950 he started a Farm Tractor business in Herkimer which led to opening a farm machinery and snow mobile business called, John Kubecka and Sons. He continued operating the business with sons Melvin and Richard until his retirement in 1985. He then enjoyed hunting turkey, fishing, and riding his 4-wheeler. Surviving are his sons, Melvin Kubecka and his wife Diana, Richard Kubecka and his wife Brenda all of Mohawk, two daughters, Marlene Rostohar and her husband Brandt of St. Johnsville, Betty Diana, and her husband Anthony of Manlius, eleven grandchildren Raymond Rostohar of Shawnee, KS, Eric Rostohar of Ilion, Theresa Pagano of Newport, Tammy Kubecka of Little Falls, Cynthia Shaw of Philadelphia, PA, Patricia Diana, of Santa Cruz, CA, Susan Diana, of Philadelphia, PA, Juli Metz of Ilion, Jodi Kubecka of Skaneateles , Kristen Kohl of Ilion, Richard S. Kubecka of Mohawk, fourteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and wife Anna, he was preceded in death by a brother Jerry Kubecka, a sister Hazel Kubecka Young, two step-brothers Steven and John Stancik. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer on Tuesday from 1:00 until 3:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 3:00pm in the funeral home with Gregg Sponburgh officiating. Interment will take place later this spring in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donation to the Paines Hollow Methodist Church c/o Patricia Esford, 1 Ward Street, Ilion, NY 13357. The family wishes to thank Kassandra and Paul Lebert for the compassionate care given to John for the past several months.
