WHITESBORO- John Letnow, age 94, formerly of Richfield Springs, passed away on Thursday November 13, 2014 at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford. He was born on October 28, 1920 in Herkimer, the son of the late John and Pauline Letnow. He graduated from Richfield Springs High School in 1941. He then entered in the military, both Army and Air Force and served in WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Tours of duty included Africa, Germany, England, the Philippine Island, Panama, Guam, New Guinea, Eniwetox Atoll and South Vietnam. He was stationed at numerous bases in the U.S including, California, New Mexico and Colorado. One of his memorable experiences was a special tour of duty with the United States Truce Commission in Greece, Egypt and Palestine in 1948 where he saw many outstanding diplomats and leaders gather. After 24 years serving our country in the Air Force he went to work at the Savings Bank of Utica for the next eighteen and a half years. He was member of the Richfield Springs Vets Club for seventy years. After retirement he lived in Richfield Springs with his wife Gloria Jean, who he married in December of 1984. His retirement years were spent enjoying his hobby of landscaping that produced beautiful flowers and shrubbery that everyone in town enjoyed. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs. John is survived by his wife Gloria Jean, a step-son Roy Parker and his wife Charla and their son Mick, a step-daughter, Annette Lahman and her husband Jamie and their daughter Britney. He is also survived by man cousins. There will be no calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will be at the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Richfield Springs on Tuesday at 11:00 am. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Richfield Springs or the Richfield Springs Fire Dept. Envelopes will be available at the church.
