MOHAWK-John Michael Heiland "Bucky" age 58 passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning April 18, 2015 in his home. He was born on December 29, 1956 in Utica, son of the late Edward C. Jr. and Jane Snyder Heiland. John was raised and educated in the South Lewis Central School. On October 14, 1989 he was united in marriage with the former Sheila Krowicki in the Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk. In 1992 they permanently moved to Mohawk to make a home and raise their family. For forty five years Bucky worked as a diesel mechanic for Utica Mack, retiring in 2002. Mr. Heiland had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Mohawk. In his leisure time he liked to fish and listen to music. To those who knew him he was a man who enjoyed any kind of racing, NASCAR, four wheelers, snowmobiles and especially dirt bikes. For a number of years he loved to compete at the annual dirt bike races in Unadilla. Bucky was special to all who knew him and will be truly missed. Surviving him are his devoted wife of twenty-five years Sheila, a son John M. Heiland Jr., a daughter Samantha Hawkins and her husband Sean all of Mohawk, one brother, Edward C. Heiland III and his wife Susan of Remsen, three sisters, Helen Drummond and her husband Clarence of Bear, DE, Debra Bulinski and her husband Steve of Forrestport, Kimberly Neale and her husband Ron of Black Bird Station, DE, a cherished grandson Connor Harkins of Mohawk, He is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters-in-laws as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours for Bucky will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer. Funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 am with the Revered Sally Heiligman, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to The American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
