Obituary

JORDANVILLE - John Joseph Malinowski, age 78 of State Highway 167 passed away peacefully on Tuesday Morning January 5, 2011. He had the comfort of his loving family at side. He was born on February 25, 1932 in Cooperstown, son of the late Stanley and Laura Quintin Malinowski. He raised in Jordanville and educated in Van Hornesville Schools. On April 7, 1951 he was united in marriage with the former Olga C. Checko in St. Josephs Church, Richfield Springs. During the Korean War John served his country, joining the US Army in 1951. after the war he served with the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1960. For many years Mr. Malinowski was a self employed General Contractor as well as owning and operating the Malinowski Dairy Farm In Jordanville. He also drove school bus for the Owen D. Young School, retiring in 1996. John had a strong sense of community; he served as Troop Leader for Boy Scout Troop # 36 and Explorer Post # 36 in Jordanville. For 39 years he helped care for the Highland Rural Cemetery and was also a member the Hugick Purcell Sheppard American Legion Post No. 616, Richfield Springs. John had a strong love for the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and ice fishing. To all who knew him, remember adown to earth, hard working man. Any conversation with him was straight and to he point. But you always felt a warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed. Surviving besides his wife Olga are three sons; James M. Malinowski and his wife Lori of Richfield Springs, Richard J. Malinowski of Rome and Daniel J. Malinowski and his wife Melanie of Mohawk, a daughter Christine Young and her husband Christopher of Jordanville a granddaughter Holly Malinowski of Richfield Springs a special longtime friend Joseph Soposki, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son John Malinowski Jr. on June 20, 1969, two brothers Stanley and Leonard Malinowski and one sister Joyce Malinowski. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street; Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held later this spring at a time to be announced. Members of the Hugick, Purcell & Shepard American Legion Post # 616 are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Monday evening at 6:30 pm for services. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
