Obituary

MOHAWK-John Henry Miller age 87 of Pine Bush Road passed peacefully away on Saturday evening August 6, 2011 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on February 25, 1924 in Brookfield, son of the late Davis and Hazel Miller. John was raised and educated in Brookfield and later in Holland Patent. On March 14, 1947 he was united in marriage with the former Sarah Ann Miller in the Mohawk Reformed Church. They first made their home in Newport and in 1952 purchased their dairy farm in Mohawk. He and his wife successfully operated the Miller Dairy Farm for forty-five years until they retired in 1997. In addition to dairy farming Mr. Miller also had worked as a logger. John was a gifted woodworker and carpenter. He used that ability to build his own home for his family and also the barn for his dairy farm. To all who knew him, he was an honest, hardworking and upright man. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point but you always felt a special warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be greatly missed by his many friends, and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife of sixty-four years Sarah, seven sons, Robert Miller and his wife Vicki of Kittery, ME, Jerry Miller of Hartwick, John Miller of Palm Bay, FL, Jamie Miller of Fort Pierce FL, Richard Miller of Mohawk, Ronald Miller of Mohawk, Stanley Miller and his wife Jackie of Albany, twelve daughters, Nancy Brower and her husband Arthur of Mohawk, Joyce Miller of Orlando, FL, Dorothy Miller of East Herkimer, Lorraine Quayle of Newport, Jane Miller of Mohawk, Joan Bongiorno and her husband Philip of Deansboro, Lisa Bowman of Stuart, FL, Cheri Shepard of North Syracuse, Janet Miller of Mohawk, Sandra Fike of Mohawk, Kathy Manno and her husband David of Ilion and Georgia Miller of Mohawk, a sister Mary Bowman of Herkimer, one brother Howard Miller and his wife Carmella of OH, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters. It was Mr. Millers request that funeral service and interment be private and at the convenience of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the American Lung Association, 506 East Washington Street, Syracuse, NY 13202. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
