Dennison Corners-John C. Neff, age 82, of Kingdom Road, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 in Little Falls Hospital. He was born on July 13, 1920, in Perry, NY, son of the late John C. and Mary Davenport Neff. A lifelong Mohawk resident, he was a graduate of Mohawk High School. An honorably discharged veteran, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Japan during WW II. On February 26, 1955, he married Helen Brown in Pennsylvania. Mr. Neff worked in construction. For 40 years, he was a member of the Operating Engineers Union #545 Syracuse, retiring in 1985. He had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Dennison Corners Community Church, Mohawk, where for 41 years, he served as church treasurer. He was president of the Dennison Corners Cemetery Board and an exempt fireman with the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department. John's leisure time was spent caring for his 250 apple trees as well as his beehives that produced 400 pounds of honey per year. John was a friend to many and will never be forgotten, he will be greatly missed especially by his family. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Helen; one son, Ron and his wife, Carol Beach, of East Herkimer; a daughter, Patricia and her husband, Robert Beckwith, of Ilion; two daughters by a previous marriage, Joan and Mary Ellen; one brother, Harold "Sonny" and his wife, Harriet Neff, of Mohawk; a sister, Sarah Morrow, of Port Kent, NY; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral service will be on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the Dennison Corners Community Church, Mohawk. Pastor Rob Andreas and Pastor Tom Buckley will officiate. Mr. Neff will be laid to rest in the Dennison Corners Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer Thursday (today) from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Dennison Corners Community Church, 219 Robinson Rd., Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Members and exempt firemen of the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department are asked to gather at the funeral home this evening at 7:45 p.m. for services.
