Lafayette - John Parmon, age 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 in Community General Hospital, Syracuse.
He was born on January 22, 1925, in Remsen, a son of the late Konon and Stephania Sarnowska Parmon. He was raised and educated in Remsen and East Herkimer, graduating from Herkimer High School. On October 5, 1945 he enlisted in the US Army serving until December 30, 1946 when he was honorably discharged. He reenlisted with the US Army in 1949 and was honorably discharged as sergeant on December 16, 1952.
On November 25, 1950, he married the former Sheila Snyder in Oneida. From 1950 until his retirement in 1986 owned and operated dairy farms in Apulia Station and Otisco. During this time he also worked with the US Army Recruitment Centers in Utica, Buffalo and Syracuse. He lived life to the fullest, be it working, hunting with friends, vacationing in Florida, or spending time at camp with his family, his energetic character was contagious. Music was a passion to him. He played many instruments, including violin, banjo, harmonica, piano, and church organ. He had a strong belief in God and through his gospel music many people were brought to the Lord. To all who knew John they will remember his gentle, compassionate manner. He will be greatly missed by many especially his family.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years Sheila, four brothers, David Parmon, Edward Parmon and his wife Joanne, Harold Parmon and his wife Doris all of Herkimer, William Parmon of Little Falls, five sisters, Stella and her husband the Reverend Harvey Stocker of Orlando FL, Sophie Valente, Ruth Weber and her husband Warren, Joan Parmon, and Elizabeth Parmon all of Herkimer, many nieces, nephews and several cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Adam, Peter and Kon Parmon, and two sisters, Jennie Ovanna and Elsie Case.
Funeral service will be on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street Herkimer. Reverend Peter Puleo will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.
