Obituary

EAST HERKIMER-John Pollak, 83, of Folts Road, died peacefully onThursday, January 20, 2000, in Valley Health Services, Inc. Herkimer. He was born on July 10, 1916, in Herkimer, son of the late John andKristina Cadra Pollak. A lifelong Herkimer resident he was a graduate of Herkimer HighSchool Class of 1934. After High School John had worked for the Standard FurnitureCompany and was a part-time Herkimer Policeman. In WW II, John answered the call of hiscountry by joining the US Coast Guard in 1942. He served in the South Pacific, theEuropean Operation and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. It was also duringthis time that he met Marion Latz whom he married on August 19, 1944 in St. JohnsEvangelical Lutheran Church, College Point, NY. After the war he and his wife returned toHerkimer. For 30 years he worked for UNIVAC as a Sr. Field Engineering Instructor,retiring in 1976. After his retirement he served as sexton of the Trinity EvangelicalLutheran Church and also worked as a Funeral Director's Assistant for Fenner Funeral Homeuntil 1991. John was a devoted family man who loved to go camping, hunting andfishing. Much of his spare time was spent in his garden and taking long walks. He was amember of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer, at one time was a coach for thechurch League Basketball and was a Social Member of the East Herkimer VolunteerFire Department. Surviving him besides his wife of 55 years Marion, are 3 sons, WaynePollak of Waverly, John and his wife Barbara Pollak of Oceanside, CA, Daniel (Deke) Pollakof East Herkimer; three sisters, Ann Hildebrandt, Sue and her husband Everett Colburn allof Ilion, Kristina Pollak of Herkimer; eight grandchildren, Jessie and James Pollak ofWaverly, Tina and her husband Jeff Campanella of Plano, TX, John D. Pollak, US Navy,San Diego, CA, Carrie Ann Pollak of Addison, TX, Kelly Pollak, Annette Lahm and herehusband Kevin all of Oceanside, CA, Tim Miller and his wife Lynette of Cottonwood, AZ; twogreat-grandchildren, Timmy Miller and Davis Lahm; four nieces; and one nephew. Funeral service will take place of Monday at 11:30 a.m. in FENNERFUNERAL HOME INC., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, with the Reverend Dale Dickerson, pastor ofTrinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer officiating. Interment in Oak Hill Cemeterywill take place later this spring. The family will receive relatives and friends in the funeral home on Sunday evening4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Monday morning 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be made tothe Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at thefuneral home.
