ILION-John Senko, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday evening April 9, 2018, in Homelife at Folts, Herkimer.
He was born on December 23, 1927, in Herkimer, son of the late Phillip and Pauline Popauch Senko. John was raised in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School, class 1947. He was a US Army veteran he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on September 19, 1952, attaining the rank of PFC. On April 30, 1955 he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Davis in the Exeter Center Church. They shared a loving and devoted union of nearly sixty-two years until her passing on December 14, 2013. He first worked for a creamery in South Columbia and then for thirty four years he worked as a machinist for the Chicago Pneumatic Company in Utica. He retired in 1989. Mr. Senko had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 502 in Frankfort. To all who knew him he was a caring, helpful and humble man with an unforgettable smile. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his son, Edwin Senko and his wife Diane of Memphis, TN, two grandsons, Brian Senko and Jason Senko and a special niece Cindy Brophy. Besides his parents and wife Ruth he is preceded in death by two sisters, Ann House and Olga Wiernicki and two brothers, William Senko and Andrew Senko.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 9th at 12:00 pm in Armory Hill Cemetery with Pastor Joelle Faulks, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer/Little Falls. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street; Herkimer.
