Obituary

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - John Scott Sheldon, 42, formerly of Richfield Springs, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in his home. He was born on March 8, 1962, in Herkimer, son of William and Deanna Wilbert Sheldon. John was raised in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School, class of 1979. A carpenter by trade, he spent five years in Phoenix, Ariz., before returning to Richfield Springs. In 1994 he moved to Colorado, where he went to work for the Deer Creek Construction Company in Westminster.John was engaged to Tracy Swendlund in Broomfield, who sadly passed away on May 19, 2004.During his years at Richfield Springs High School he was active in varsity sports. He played baseball, basketball and football. He proudly held the distinction of being the first football running back to run for 1,000 yards in a season. This was accomplished in his junior year of high school. John will be greatly missed by his many friends and especially his family.Surviving besides his parents are three brothers, James R. Sheldon of Oneonta, Thomas William and his wife Laura Sheldon of Raleigh, N.C., and Richard Todd Sheldon and his fiancee Norma Wilmot of Fonda; and one niece, Sydney Sheldon of Raleigh, N.C.A memorial service will be held Monday, June 28 at 7 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. William Harkins, pastor of the Church of Christ Uniting, will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the memorial service (5 to 7 p.m.).Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Mountain View Mental Health Club, Oneonta. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
