RICHFIELD SPRINGS - John E. Swanteson, age 76, of County Road 25, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2002, in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center, New Hartford. He was born on May 22, 1925, in Brooklyn, son of the late John and Johanna Jurgeson Swanteson. John was raised and educated in Smyrna. During World War II he proudly served with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was married to the former Daisy Cole. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 1989. A Richfield Springs resident since 1959, he and his wife came here from Norwich. They owned and operated their dairy farm in Richfield Springs, retiring in 1979. John was friend to many and will always be remembered as a caring, hard working and humble person. Surviving him are one son John H. and his wife Diane Swanteson of Richfield Springs; a sister, Winnie Clark of Sherburne; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Twilight Rest Cemetery, Monticello. There are no calling hours.
