John Tinkler's Obituary

HERKIMER - John Tinkler, age 92, of 315 North Prospect Street, passed away on Saturday morning, October 20, 2001 in Valley Health Services Inc., Herkimer. He was born on February 3, 1909 in Herkimer, son of the late Albert and Rachel Orendorf Tinkler. A lifelong area resident, John was raised and educated in Paines Hollow. He moved to Herkimer in 1923 and had resided there since. For thirty years he was employed with Remington Rand, Sperry UNIVAC, retiring as stock room manager in 1971. On August 7, 1971 he married Rita Savage Flannagan in the Newport United Methodist Church. The Reverend Russell Little officiated. He was a member of the Remington twenty-five year club. He had a strong belief in God and was a Methodist by faith. Besides his wife of thirty years, Rita, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Duane and Arlene Tinkler of Columbus, OH, Jack and Judy Tinkler of Ilion; two daughters and their husbands, Joan and Ronald Schorer of Mohawk, Diana and Marvin (Sonny) Briggs of Ilion; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A grandson, Duane Loce preceded him in death in 1979 and a daughter Yvonne Tinkler in 1997. A memorial service will take place on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc. 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. The family will be present in the funeral home one hour prior to the memorial service (9- 10 a.m.) to receive relatives and friends. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
